Job Summary
The Director of Digital Marketing Engineering will lead the team in defining technical strategies, building innovative software solutions, and managing a team of engineers. This role stays current on emerging technologies in marketing such as advertising, campaign management, content management, site optimization, CRM, personalization, loyalty programs, and paid media. The Director is responsible for managing the marketing technology stack, developing strategies to optimize internal and external technologies, eliminating technical debt, and coordinating cross-team dependencies. The role also includes managing vendors, contractors, offshore teams, and budget responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead marketing capabilities, including evaluating solutions (build or buy), design, and implementation with focus on segmentation, campaigns, and personalization.
Own marketing engineering deliverables, collaborate with other technology teams, and support engineering requests involving marketing tech and customer data.
Evaluate, improve, and implement processes to advance engineering excellence across teams.
Oversee system repairs, maintenance, and documentation.
Provide career development, training, and feedback to engineering staff.
Maintain a high-performing engineering team culture.
Manage the annual budget, OKRs, and provide regular reporting.
Manage vendor relationships through negotiation to balance cost and performance.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Extensive experience in marketing technologies including digital marketing, campaign management, advertising, content management, orchestration, site optimization, analytics, and customer segmentation.
Proficient with customer data platforms, personalization, and loyalty technologies.
Strong leadership experience managing both technical and managerial staff.
Expertise in technology design, development, implementation, and troubleshooting.
Skilled in cost estimation, support services, and total cost of ownership analysis.
Proven ability to lead complex, multi-product projects including cross-team integrations.
Excellent communication skills, tact, and diplomacy.
Ability to motivate, mentor, and provide constructive feedback to staff at all levels.
Strong goal-setting, performance evaluation, and delegation skills.
Ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Experience & Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 12+ years of IT experience.
Minimum 10 years of technology-related experience, preferably with software development lifecycle (SDLC) expertise; Agile SDLC preferred.
Prior leadership of teams with 20+ members and at least 8 direct reports.
7+ years of experience in technology design covering scalability, disaster recovery, resiliency, security, and obsolescence management.
5+ years managing offshore resources.
5+ years in marketing technology platforms, especially campaign and media technologies.
5+ years of experience with cloud-based solutions.
3+ years working with CRM, offer management, and customer 360 technologies.
