General Summary

The Fleet Supervisor (FS) oversees day-to-day transportation operations. This role includes managing approximately 40 drivers, ensuring on-time deliveries to stores, optimizing tractor utilization, handling inbound reverse logistics, and maintaining driver safety and legal compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

• 80% of the role focuses on driver safety, FMCSA, and DOT compliance. You’ll be responsible for on-time delivery routes, tractor utilization, and driver pay accuracy.

• 20% of the role involves building strong relationships with drivers by understanding their work-life balance, meeting their expectations, and holding quarterly face-to-face meetings. You will also oversee driver training, retention, idle time reduction, fuel efficiency (MPG) improvements, load dispatch assignments, equipment usage, and the effective use of driver management systems. Promoting a safety culture by evaluating drivers’ safety performance is key.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

• Proven leadership with deep understanding of dedicated transportation operations and FMCSA/DOT regulations

• Familiarity with Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program

• Strong communication (written and verbal), listening, interpersonal problem solving, and innovative thinking skills

• High attention to detail, strong planning, and organizational capabilities

• Ability to interpret driver logs, hours of service, and understand dedicated fleet operations

• Proficiency in transportation optimization software for routing, tendering, scheduling, and shipment tracking

• Ability to perform well in a high-stress environment

• Proficient with MS Office applications

• Willingness to travel up to 10%

Work Experience & Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Business or Logistics preferred, or comparable experience (1–3 years) in transportation operations for a retailer, manufacturing company, major carrier, or logistics firm required

• 1–3 years managing at least 40 drivers preferred

• 1–3 years of onsite driver management experience preferred

• Minimum 1 year experience with Driver Dispatch Management Systems (e.g., McLeod, TMW, Telogis, Dispatch Tracks, AS400)
