As a Yard Jockey at Dollar General, you will play a crucial role in the efficient movement of trailers within the distribution center yard. You will be responsible for moving trailers to designated areas before and after loading or unloading. Your work ensures smooth flow in operations, supporting the overall logistics and distribution process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transport full and empty trailers safely to assigned locations within the distribution center yard as directed by the trailer locator.

  • Secure loaded trailers by applying seals and verifying trailer integrity.

  • Maintain accurate and timely trailer movement logs and daily yard reports to support yard operations.

  • Comply with all safety, quality, and productivity standards while operating yard equipment and vehicles.

  • Communicate effectively with yard personnel to coordinate trailer movements and address any issues promptly.

  • Follow company policies and procedures related to yard safety and operations.

Qualifications:

  • Valid state driver's license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not mandatory.

  • Basic math, reading, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Good organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Prior experience in a distribution center or logistics environment preferred but not required.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent walking, standing, sitting, and walking long distances within the yard.

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including hot and cold environments.

  • Exposure to noise, dust, and other typical warehouse conditions.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling motions.
